Service overview
House Rewiring for Safer, Modern Electrical Systems
If your property’s wiring is outdated, overloaded, or showing signs of wear, a rewire can reduce risk and bring your installation up to current standards. Chitty Brothers provides planned rewires for homeowners, landlords, and commercial spaces across London, Kent, and the South East.
Signs you may need a rewire
Frequent tripping, flickering lights, warm sockets, burning smells, damaged cables, or an older fuse box can indicate deterioration or insufficient capacity. If your property is older and has not been rewired in decades, an inspection is strongly advised.
What’s included
We can replace old cabling, add or upgrade circuits, install modern accessories, and upgrade the consumer unit where required. We also label circuits, test the installation, and provide the appropriate electrical certification on completion.
Our process
1) Survey and quotation. 2) Clear plan for access, making-good expectations, and timelines. 3) First-fix cabling and back boxes. 4) Second-fix accessories and consumer unit work. 5) Full testing, certification, and handover.
Compliance & testing
All work is completed with safety and compliance in mind, including Part P and Building Regulations requirements where applicable. We carry out inspection and testing and issue certification (such as an Electrical Installation Certificate) to document results and provide peace of mind.
Rewiring FAQs
Common questions about full and partial rewires, disruption, and certification.
How do I know if my property needs rewiring?
Warning signs include frequent tripping, flickering lights, discoloured or warm sockets, burning smells, and brittle or damaged cables. If your wiring is older or you are unsure of its condition, we recommend an inspection to assess safety and capacity.
What is the difference between a full and partial rewire?
A full rewire replaces the majority of cabling and accessories throughout the property. A partial rewire targets specific circuits or areas (for example, a kitchen upgrade or an extension) where wiring is outdated or additional capacity is required.
Will I need to move out during the work?
Not always. For smaller properties or partial rewires, it may be possible to remain in the home with planned power shut-offs. For larger full rewires, temporary relocation can be more comfortable. We will advise based on your layout, scope, and timeframe.
Do you provide certification after a rewire?
Yes. After inspection and testing, we issue the appropriate certification for the work completed (such as an Electrical Installation Certificate) and explain the results at handover.
Can you upgrade the consumer unit at the same time?
Yes. Many rewires include a consumer unit upgrade to modern protective devices where required. We will specify what is needed after the initial survey.
Do you work with landlords and commercial property managers?
Yes. We support planned rewires and remedial works for rental properties and commercial premises, with clear documentation and scheduling to minimise disruption.
